All About Bayfield, Ontario

Nestled along the eastern shores of Lake Huron, Bayfield is located along the scenic Bluewater Highway (Highway 21), approximately 80 km west of London and about 200 km from Toronto.

Originally established in the 1830s, Bayfield quickly grew into a thriving settlement with local industries including brickyards, blacksmith shops, and mills. Named after Admiral Henry Wolsey Bayfield, a British naval surveyor, the town carries a rich maritime and pioneer history that still shapes its identity today.

One of its most storied landmarks, the Albion Hotel, dates back to the late 1800s and is known not only for its hospitality, but for its local lore, adding a touch of character to the village’s already rich past.
